Phase 1 - Spruce Wash Technical Feasibility Study

 Purpose

The Spruce Wash Technical Feasibility Study evaluated potential long-term mitigation options and focused on identifying ways to improve flood infrastructure within the City of Flagstaff. The first task of the feasibility study was to determine the possible capacity of improvements along the Spruce Wash channel from just upstream of the Linda Vista Avenue crossing to Route 66. This work included examining how to maximize stormwater conveyance using a series of box culverts, large diameter pipes and expansion and lining (concrete) of the existing open channel while not adversely impacting adjacent neighbors or other neighborhoods. Information from the first phase of the feasibility study can be used for capital planning and for seeking funding for further design and implementation. Any identified potential mitigation measures also need to be evaluated for financial, cultural and environmental feasibility, in addition to technical feasibility. The results of this first phase of the feasibility study can be read below.
